The Snowy Day, Literature Brought To Life

One winter morning Claire woke up and looked out the window. Mother nature had dumped another foot of snow and her Mommy was desperate for something new to do. They decided to act out a favorite children’s book, The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.

After breakfast Claire put on her snowsuit and ran outside. The snow was piled up very high. The doggies had made a path through the snow for her to follow.
Crunch, crunch, crunch, her feet sank into the snow. She walked with her toes pointing out and pointing in.

Claire found a stick and poked it in the snow to make a track.

It was a stick just right for smacking a snow-covered tree limb an earlier storm brought down.

Down fell the snow – plop! – on top of Claire’s head.

Claire pretended she was a mountain climber. She climbed up a great big tall heaping mountain of snow – and slid all the way down.

Claire was so tired after walking in the snow she took a three hour nap and her Mommy found time to blog.

The End.

To extend this project a bit further, I hope to print out the photos and bind them to retell “The Snowy Day” with Claire as the main character.

Ever act out any stories with your little ones? I love the whole felt board and literature connection idea but found acting the story out ourselves even more fun. I hadn’t realized how much of the plot Claire remembered, she was reminding me of scenes that we still had left to do!

I’m linking this literature brought to life story over at

  1. What beautiful pictures and a great way to extend the story…the book with your Claire as the main character is going to be adorable, I am sure she will love it! Thank you for linking up to stART :0)
